CoStar Group has appointed Mario Lefebvre as the company’s chief economist for Canada.
Lefebvre will lead the company’s Canadian market analytics and thought leadership efforts, providing economic and commercial real estate insights, research and forecasts for clients, industry stakeholders and the media.
“Canada remains an important growth market for CoStar, and Mario’s deep understanding of both the Canadian economy and commercial real estate industry makes him exceptionally well positioned to lead our efforts,” said Jay Spivey, senior vice-president of CoStar Analytics. “His extensive experience spanning central banking, institutional real estate investment, economic research and public policy will further strengthen the insights and expertise we deliver to our clients.”
Lefebvre has more than 30 years of experience in economics, real estate research and public policy. He most recently served as advisory partner at Aviseo Conseil and, since 2023, has been a lecturer in the MBA program at Université de Sherbrooke. Before joining Aviseo, he spent four years as regional director for Quebec at the Bank of Canada, where he supervised the central bank’s Business Outlook Survey across the province.
“CoStar’s data, analytics and research capabilities have become increasingly important to the Canadian commercial real estate industry,” said Lefebvre. “I’m excited to join the company at a time when market participants are navigating significant economic and real estate changes, and I look forward to helping clients make more informed decisions through timely analysis and actionable insights.”
CoStar has operated in Canada since 2014, providing commercial real estate professionals with property information, market intelligence and analytics through its research organization and technology platform.
Lefebvre succeeded Carl Gomez, who joined EVP Research as its chief economist in January.
